Resilient Landscaping: Create Defensible Space that is Beautiful, Sustainable and Biodiverse

Learn how to create and maintain a fire-wise, sustainable garden that supports biodiversity while meeting County code requirements. The event will include a 1 hour indoor presentation plus a 1 hour site visit to evaluate OAEC defensible space and help applying for Safer West County’s $1000 defensible space rebate if you are in the communities of (Forestville, Monte Rio, Camp Meeker, or Occidental). 

This two part workshop will allow plenty of time for questions, and will provide:

  • Practical ways to achieve a beautiful, biodiverse, energy-saving and water- and fire-wise landscape.
  • Classroom presentation with recommendations for fire-wise landscaping in the 0-5’, 5-30’, and 30-100’ defensible space zones, with specific plant selection, placement and maintenance guidelines.
  • Practice applying techniques to help when you return home to evaluate and improve your own defensible space by touring and evaluating OAEC property.
  • Resources for how to move forward with your landscape and community.
