Fire Safe Occidental

Fire Safe Occidental (FSO) is a volunteer-run resource for creating a connected and fire-resilient community in and around the Occidental area. FSO’s mission is to reduce the risk and impact of wildfires through community education, fuel reduction, and emergency preparedness. We partner with neighboring communities through Safer West County, where we jointly create newsletters to keep residents informed, hold educational events, and secure grant funding for projects that improve the lives of Occidental residents.

We are making a difference

Much of Fire Safe Occidental’s success has come from two avenues:

Neighborhood Groups: Empowering small neighborhood groups to connect and support each other, creating momentum to tackle projects collectively

From 12 residents concerned about the frequency of catastrophic fires coming together in 2018, FSO is now over 600 members strong. Join FSO today if you haven’t already!

Advocacy Work: Securing resources for Occidental through local, state, & federal agencies

“We simply cannot wait for someone else to ‘save’ us and our land.”

The time for action is now. The people to do it is us—you and me! Get involved in creating the solutions you want to see and a future worthy of leaving to our children’s children.
